Get paid in US dollars in Sri Lanka.
In Sri Lanka, BPO and services SMEs invoicing overseas clients are typically paid in US dollars — but converting each payment to rupees the moment it lands, at the bank’s rate that day, quietly erodes margin on a steady dollar revenue line. A US-dollar account lets you hold those dollars and convert to rupees at the mid-market rate, on your own schedule. Open the account from Sri Lanka with no US company, get paid in US dollars into an account only you control, then convert to Sri Lankan rupees at the mid-market rate or send to 191 countries.

Getting paid in Sri Lanka — FAQ
Eligibility Can I get paid in US dollars in Sri Lanka without a US company?
Yes. A Poplin account is in your own name — not a US entity — and comes with a US account number and routing number, so clients, employers, and platforms can pay you in US dollars the same way they pay any US bank account: by ACH, the US bank-transfer network, or by wire from abroad. You can open it from Sri Lanka; identity verification applies at signup.
Convert How do I move my dollars to a bank account in Sri Lanka?
You can pay out in US dollars or in Sri Lankan rupees. In US dollars, pay out to your Business Foreign Currency Account (BFCA) at a Sri Lankan bank, arriving the same business day, for 1% + $1.00 on a personal account or 0.5% + $1.00 on a business account, up to $25,000 per payout. Or convert to Sri Lankan rupees at the mid-market rate with no markup, when the rate suits you, and pay out to a bank account over SLIPS, arriving the same business day, for 1% + $1.00 on a personal or business account. A bank converts dollars at its own buying rate. The exact amount is shown before you confirm.
Rules Does Poplin change Sri Lanka’s 180-day rule for export earnings?
No. Under Sri Lanka’s exchange-control rules, set by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, earnings from exporting services must be received in Sri Lanka within 180 days of providing the service, and holding them in a Poplin account does not change that. What Poplin changes is when you convert and at what rate: within that window you can pay out in US dollars to your Business Foreign Currency Account (BFCA), or convert to Sri Lankan rupees at the mid-market rate when the rate suits you, rather than at a bank’s rate on the day the payment lands.
Currencies What currencies can I be paid in?
Clients, employers, and marketplaces can pay into your USD, EUR, GBP, and AED accounts, personal or business. US dollars reach the furthest — most clients and platforms pay in them.
Cost What does it cost to get paid in Sri Lanka?
Receiving is 1% on a personal account, plus a fixed fee on USD ($0.50) and AED ($5.00), with no account or monthly fees. Converting to Sri Lankan rupees is at the mid-market rate with no markup, and the fee is shown before you send.
Safety Is my money safe?
Your funds sit in your own account — not pooled, and never in Poplin’s hands. Poplin can’t spend, move, or freeze your balance; your account is secured with a passkey. Poplin is a service of Maash Inc., which is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business.
